Regular Prophy
We use the most up-to-date technology, including an Ultrasonic Scaler to remove plaque*, stains and calculus from tooth structures. Semi-annual cleanings are recommended; however, each patient and his or her particular oral health varies and may require more frequent cleaning schedules. Good oral hygiene, a balanced diet, and regular dental visits can help reduce your risk of developing periodontal disease.
*Plaque is a sticky, nearly invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is a growing colony of living bacteria, saliva, and food debris. The bacteria present in plaque produce toxins that can cause gum inflammation and lead to periodontal disease (destruction of tooth structures) and tooth decay.
Periodontal Scaling
For our patients that have been diagnosed with bone loss (periodontitis), we provide periodontal therapy or maintenance. This treatment includes a recorded full-mouth periodontal probing and removal of diseased deposits of calculus** (tartar) from the teeth. Gum disease, if left untreated, can cause tooth loss, bone loss, and has been linked to overall health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and osteoporosis.
**Calculus is hardened plaque that forms on most tooth/root surfaces and is firmly attached. Calculus forms above and below the gum line, and needs to be removed in order to restore health to the supporting gum and tooth structures.
Root Planing
A root planing procedure may be recommended for our patients who have developed inflammation and infection of the supporting structures of their teeth (gums, bone, ligaments, and root structures). A "deep scaling" is required for the full length of each root surface. This procedure usually requires multiple visits in order to treat the entire mouth.
Tooth Desensitizing
Coombs and Brewer provide a variety of ways to treat sensitive teeth and/or root surfaces, from localized to generalized sensitivity of any degree. We are able to provide customized treatment options designed for each patient's needs and concerns.
