Dr. Ryan Coombs is a native Nevadan born and raised here in Carson City. He is eagerly returning to his home town after spending several years away. Dr. Coombs graduated from the University of Oregon in 1998 and attended Creighton University Dental School in Omaha, Nebraska, earning his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2003. While in dental school, Dr Coombs met his wife Shannon who is also a dentist and shortly after graduating he moved to her home state of Oklahoma. It is here that he has spent most of his time practicing dentistry. Dr. Coombs, his wife, and their three children, are excited to now call Carson City, Nevada their new home.
During the last 12 years Dr. Coombs has been fortunate to practice dentistry in small rural communities as well as larger metropolitan cities. He has volunteered in community health clinics and as a dental provider for the Mission of Mercy service weekends. This diverse exposure has helped Dr.Coombs refine his skills as a dentist who provides expert, comprehensive and considerate care.
Dr. Coombs enjoys many outdoor activities available in and around Carson City. He will venture into the mountains for hikes, fishing and snow skiing. Dr. Coombs has a passion for cooking. He hopes to add a little western flare to the down south Oklahoma barbecue that he learned while living away.
Dr. Shannon Brewer is from Oklahoma. She attended St. Gregory’s University where she graduated with a Bachelors of Science in 1998. From there, Dr. Brewer moved to Omaha, Nebraska. It’s here that she received her Doctorate in Dentistry from Creighton University in 2002. While attending Creighton University Dr. Brewer met Dr. Ryan Coombs.
Dr. Brewer has a diverse background in her practice of dentistry. Upon graduation, she remained in Omaha for one more year and remained at Creighton University Dental School as a part-time instructor. She also served as the Clinic Director at One World Community Health Center in Omaha during this time. Dr. Brewer was able to help educate future dentists and provide dental care to an underserved dental population in need of help.
In 2003 Dr. Coombs graduated from dental school and the two of them moved back to Dr. Brewers home town of Healdton, OK. Moving back home provided Shannon the opportunity to work side by side with her father and two brothers who are also dentists. Healdton is a small rural community in Oklahoma. Practicing in this environment strengthened Dr. Brewers skills as a dentist and required that she have a strong understanding of comprehensive dental care for patients of all ages. Shannon continued to help in the dental community while living in Oklahoma. She volunteered as an instructor for the local dental hygiene program. She provided dental care for patients at a nearby low income dental clinic and she aided other local dentists when emergencies required them to step away from their own practices for various reasons. All these experiences have bolstered her knowledge in the field of dentistry and scope of practice.
Dr Brewer moved to Carson City in the summer of 2015. When not at work Shannon is busy with her children and their activities. Despite growing up in Oklahoma and spending most of her time in the plains of the midwest, Dr. Brewer enjoys many of the various experiences that can be had from living this close to the Sierra Nevada Mountain range.
